              Altar Care Duties
  1. On the first and third weeks of the month and whenever Communion is celebrated, The Common Cup is to be filled halfway.  One member from your team should fill the Common Cup before the service.  Leave Common Cup and wine bottle on the counter in the counting room so this individual can fill the cup in the morning or before an evening service when we celebrate Communion.  (Pastor will fill it before the Sat. night service).  The individual chalices should also be filled and placed to the right (as you face the portable altar).  Three full trays of individual cups should be prepared as this is used for both Saturday and Sunday services.  Leave 4 empty individual cups in the middle of each tray for non-alcoholic wine which Pastor will fill before the service. The Flagon (large vessel – do not put wine in Flagon) should be placed empty next to the Common Cup (vessel with cross on bottom).
  1. The Pyx (container for wafers) should be filled and set out next to the Common Cup.  The Paten (flat vessel) should have some wafers placed on it and then put down next to the Common Cup.  The Communion Veil should be placed over the Pyx, the Paten and the Common Cup (large chalice).  Two(2) empty individual cup trays are to be placed on the side trays attached to the front pews for communicants to return their empty cup.
  1. At the conclusion of the Service on Sunday, all Communion ware is to be washed and placed back into the cabinet in the office next to Pastor’s Study.  Communion ware is kept in the bottom cabinet about three over from the inner wall.  All unused wine in the Common Cup is to be poured outside on the earth.  The wine in the individual chalices may be poured back into the bottle.
  1. Soiled Communion linens can be placed on the counter in the counting room for Kathy Merrill to pick up.
  1. The church key is to be passed on at the end of the month to the next people on the schedule.
  1. When there is one bottle of wine left in the box, which is in the same office as the Communion ware and under the open counter space, please be sure to advise the Board of Elders so they can purchase more.  Please do not wait until you start to use the last bottle.
  1. If you have any questions after reading the instructions let Sue Hasko know.
Communion needs to be set up before 4:00 pm on Saturday to be used for the Saturday night service.
