Acolyte Guidelines
Lighting Candles
Please arrive 15-20 minutes before the service.
Candlelighter is hanging on the wall in Pastor’s study.
Robes can be found in several sizes in the Pastor’s closet
Parents should help Acolyte light the candlelighter.
Before you approach the altar, before stepping up, bow facing the cross.
Light right candle first, then left candle.
Walk to the step, step down, face the cross and bow.
Extinguish flame.
Candelabras are lit during holidays, special occasions, or when Pastor asks you to
If lighting candlelabras, light the altar candles first, then light right candelabra, then left candelabra, start with candle closest to altar.
Sit with family during the service
Extinguishing Candles
When the last hymn is being sung, the candles should be extinguished.
Walk to the step, bow, step up and extinguish the right candle and then the left candle.
If candelabras are lit, start with the right candelabra, start with right candle and work towards altar.
Then go to left candelabra, start with left candle and work towards altar. Extinguish altar candles last.
Walk to the step, step down, face the cross and bow again
Walk back to the Pastor’s study and place the candlelighter back on the wall.
